CLASHING OF SHOW DATES
WANGANUI STANDS FIRM CONFERENCE SUGGESTED TO AVOID RECURRENCE The clashing of agricultural and pastoral show dates, as between Wanganui and Hawera, was discussed again at a meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Association yesterday. Considerable correspondence was read relating to the efforts of the secretary (Mr. A. R. Donaldson) to explain Wanganui’s point of view, both to the Royal Agricultural Society and the Egmont (Hawera) Association. The position is that Wanganui has fixed its show for November 9 and 10 and Hawera has brought its show forward to Friday and Saturday of the same week. Efforts have been made to get Wanganui to put its dates forward to the Tuesday and Wednesday, November 8 and 9, but that does not meet with the sympathy of the retailers or of the farming community on account of the stocK sale falling on people’s day. Wanganui intends to adhere to its dates this year and, to prevent a recurrence, the executive yesterday decided to adopt Mr. Donaldson’s suggestion that a conference of We*t Coast show associations be called to have the sequence of shows maintained as in the past— Manawatu, Wanganui, Egmont and Stratford.
