Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, Aug. 11, 3 p.m. General Situation.—A very slight secondary depression Is crossing the Dominion but an intense anti-cyclone is centred over the New South Wales Coast and is extending across the Tasman. Forecast.—Winds: South-west to southerly prevailing, light to moderatAmainly, but freshening at times. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough nojth of Farewell Spit and rather rough to rough south of East Cape; elsewhere, slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman: Strong southwest to southerly winds and rough seas, but conditions gradually moderating. Weather: Fine in western districts from Taranaki southwards; elsewhere, changeable and with occasional rain at many places, but weather improving generally during Friday. Milder day, but cold night temperatures, with many sharp frosts. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 7 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperature: Maximum, 54deg. Fahr.; minimum, 30 deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 5.06 p.m.; time of sunrise to-morrow, 6.45 a.m. Phases of the Moon for August.—First Quarter.
