WHANGANUI HISTORICAL COMMITTEE
Volume to be published At the fourth meeting of the Historical Committee, Mr James Siddells, chairman of the Library Committee, was welcomed as a member. Mr Bethwaite, on behalf of the Finance Committee, presented an estimate of cost and probable income on '.he volume to be published by the committee, "The History of Wanganui To Date.” This statement was adopted and Mr Bethwaite was asked to go ahead with the pre-publication forms soliciting orders in advance. Regret was expressed at the absence of Mr Downes, who is at present in hospital. Mr Chapple reported having received the gift to the committee of a number of old photographs from Miss Meuli. Among them is one of the river frontage, showing Queen's Park with the blockhouses, also two of Chavannes corner at different stages in the early days, now occupied by the National Bank, and a very nice photograph of the Hon. John Ballance. The committee expressed their great appreciation of Miss Meuli’s gift and hope that she will give a lead to other citizens.
