Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, July 19, 3 p.m. General Situation.—A complex depression covers the Dominion. One low pressure centre lies to the south-east of the South Island, another to the west of Cook Strait and still another is forming in the North. An anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Northerly from Cook Strait northwards, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in some exposed positions, elsewhere rather variable but a change to moderate to strong southerly extending from the south and becoming general to-morrow. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough north of East Cape in the Taranaki Bight and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising south of East Cape and north of Cape Egmont. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds at first in the northern portion but fresh southerlies soon becoming general. Seas rough. Weather: Cloudy to overcast and unsettled generally with some rain in most places, heavy falls being probable th central districts and later in the North. Conditions gradually improving, however, in Westland and the far South. Temperatures cold with some snow on the ranges. Time of sunset: To-day, 4.44 p.m.; time of sunrise, to-mororw, 7.09 a.m. Phases of Moon for July.—First Quarter, July, 5; Full Moon, July 13; Last Quarter, July 20; New Moon, July 27.
