Car Stolen frem Waverley. Recovery of Miss J. Lupton’s car. f which was stolen from Waverley on the night of the Hunt Club ball last Friday, resulted in the police being informed by Mr J. Laird, of Waitotara. that on the night in question he heard a crash and went outside to investi- j gate. He saw no lights, but heard f footsteps on the road leading up the- t Waitotara Hill. Whoever was there c. was running, reports the “Chronicle’s” r Waitotara correspondent. Mr Laird j thought he was mistaken about the crash and went inside again. It was not until next morning that the car r was discovered. It had travelled down j a bank 30 feet. In the vehicle was j Miss Lupton's purse containing the key to the ball supper room door. To overcome the difficulty it was placed r in because the key had disappeared I with the car, the ball committee had r to saw off the lock of the door. 1
