Lowe creates an entirely new type of detective in this story. He is a college graduate who returns to his alma mater in time to face the baffling mystery of repeated murder among thr faculty members. Dexter’s, Fern Flats on Wednesday, but will probably meet there on Wednesday, July YOl NG FARMERS’ CLUB MARTON BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Mar* ton branch of the Young Farmers' Ciub was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. R. Shield presiding over a good attendance. The speaker for the evening was Mr. J. A. Harris, of Turakina Valley, and he gave a very interesting account of his recent European tour. At the conclusion, he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A combined field day of Wanganui and Marton branches is to be held on Marton Racecourse early in October. It is proposed to hold judging competitions of stock. . In preparation for this, the club decided to hold an all-day field day on the property of Mr. A. L. Wheeler, Leedstown. The president, secretary •Mr. A. B. Marshall) and Mr. L. McLeay were appointed a sub-committee to make full arrangements and appoint a day. It is hoped that all young farmers will make a point of attendthis outing. Mr. Wheeler is to be asked to give demonstrations. The Farmers’ Union invited members to attend the address to be given by the president of the union, Mr. W. W. Mulholland, in the Druids’ Hall, Marton, on Saturday at 8 p.m. The district secretary of the Y.F.C. advised that fortnightly talks are being given over the air at 7.40 -p.m. on matters of interest to young farmers. SCHOOL FOOTBALL RANGITIKEI v. OHAKUNE The August school holidays are always set apart for the annual primary schools’ quadrangular football tournament. This year the fixture is at Lower Hutt. Schools in this district have already been engaged in matches with Taihape for the purpose of selecting the best Rangitikei team available. Last Saturday a Taihape team travelled to Marton to meet a team from this district, the visitors being victorious by a large margin. The selectors have chosen the following team to represent South Rangitikei against Ohakune at Taihape on Saturday, July 16:— Full-back: O’Hamon (Taihape Country). Three-quarters: Glenny (Taihape),! Whale (Marton Junction), Holloway I (Waipoura). Five-eighths: Berryman (Taihape), Stantiall (Marton Junction). Half-back: Dewhurst (Taihape). Forwards: Forbes (Taihape), Hamer (Marton), Morris (Marton Junction), O’Brien (Utiku), McCullough (Ohingaiti), Reir (Parewanui), Graham (Marton), Haher (Owhakura). Reserves: Olsen (Taihane). Horton (Taihape), Lloyd (Tainape), Kite (Marton Junction), Ellis (Marton Junction), Warbrick (Parewanui). LADIES’ HOCKEY TEAM TO MEET ENGLISH ELEVEN Considerable interest is being taken locally over ihe forthcoming representative women’s hockey match against the touring all-England team, which' is due to play at. Feilding on Thurs-! day. July 14. The selectors have had a busy time, following several representative fixtures, with the object of securing the best talent offering, and it is considered that the Feilding team will give a particularly good account of itself when the match takes place. Of the twelve players chosen, from which the Feilding team will be selected, seven come from Rangitikei. The players selected are:— Forwards: Mrs. I. Hammond (R), Misses P. Stoney (T), M. Bottcher (F). M. Bush (R), R. Raukawa (T), M. Iwikau (R). Halves: Misses V. Cronin (F), P. Williams (R), E. Davidson (R), M. Chase (T). Backs: Miss P. Carpenter (R), Mrs. M. Hawera (R). Two others are to be selected later.

The captain of the team is Miss P. Carpenter. Saturday’s Match I In order to give the representatives a final try-out before their match, a game has been arranged against Wanganui at Marton Park on Saturday, commencing at 2.15 p.m. The teams are:— Feilding.—Mrs. I. Yesterday’s Matches The ground was very heavy for the ladies’ hockey match between Himterville and the United-Tutaenui team ‘at Hunterville on Wednesday. The I game was interesting and was played in a very friendly spirit. The result { was a win for United-Tutaenui by two goals to nil. Mrs. I. Hammond scored both goals. At Onepuhi the match between Kia Ora and Halcombe B resulted in a win for Kia Ora by two goals to nil. Miss M. Bush scored both goals for the winners. A BOXING SCHOOL Efforts are being made in Marton at the present time to revive the interest in boxing. Towards this object, Mr. O. Gibbons, well known for his boxing capabilities, is opening a school in the town. All boys interested are asked to attend his gym. in Stewart Street this evening, when Mr. Gibbons will explain his objectives. PERSONAL | .Mr. R. G. Cooper, who for the past three years has been the WanganuiRangitikei Electric Power Board's representative in Hunterville, has been transferred to Marton. Mr. and Mrs. Coo-per left for Marton on Monday. Mr. George, of Whangarei, has been appointed to take charge of Hunterville district.
