DAMAGE IN WAIAPU COUNTY ENGINEER’S COMMENT ON EROSION [ Per Press Association. ] GISBORNE, May 26. Damage exceeding £22,015 was done in the Waiapu County by the recent floods, states a report submitted to the council by the engineer. Four floods have occurred since February and each has caused serious damage to roads by slips and erosion. The engineer adds that seriou. flooding began after the forests had been cleared, and each succeeding flood has caused heavier damage. He does not think that erosion can be checked until half the area of the county is returned to forest.
