WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

.MEETING AT RANGIWAEA The monthly meeting of the Rangiwaea Institute was held on May 19. Owing to the small attendance, the reading of the delegates’ report on the annual Ruapehu Federation Council meeting was postponed until next l meeting. Continuing the golden thread subject, "Beauty in a Woman's Life,” a paragraph on "Courage” was read. Next meeting a display of handwork will be held. > The competition for next month will be a vase of winter flowers, ber- | ries and leaves. OKOIA I I At the April meeting of the Okola Women's Institute, Mrs Gray, .the president, welcomed all present, including several visitors. After the usual business was transacted, Mrs Gray was chosen delegate to the forthcoming biennial conference of Women’s Institutes. The points competition for a sponge sandwich (kindly judged by Mrs Earley, of Makirikiri) resulted: Mrs Munro 1, Mrs Grw 2, Mrs G. R. Jones 3. For May, the points competition is for a knitted vest, to be given to the needy. There will also be a clothes drive for the benefit of needy Maoris. Hostesses will be Mesdames Hoffman and Munro, assisted by Mrs Renz and Miss Hogg. Miss McCarthy will give a talk on first-aid. The highlight of the day was a travel talk by Mrs Farley, which proved a real treat. Mrs Farley described in a most vivid and interesting manner the island of Oahu and the various sights and industries she visited during her three weeks’ stay on the island. Members followed her talk with keen interest and expressed the hope that she would return on a future date and give a further talk. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Carter and W. Jones, and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
