Air Vive-Marshal Sir Edward Ellington, inspector-general of the Royal Air Force, who is en route to Australia to report on the air force, is due at Fremantle on June 14 and is expected sail for New Zealand about July 15.

Mr. John Justin McCarthy, Hawera was on Wednesday admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers. McArtney, district inspector for the Manawatu district, and until recently of Wanganui, has been promoted to ’be chief clerk at Wellington. Mr. G. P. Clapcott, of the Wellington staff, has been appointed district inspector in the Manawatu. Mr. C. Young, who has been manager at Timaru, has been promoted to manager in Wanganui, and Mr. N. C. Barstow, at present manager in Wanganui, will go to headquarters at Auckland. Mr lan L. Burr, M.Sc., of Wanganui, has received word that he has been appointed to a position as petrologist to the Shell Oil Co., with headquarters in Wellington. Mr Burr’s success comes after a brilliant career in science at Otago University College. Leaving Wanganui Technical College just over four years ago, he entered Otago University College and at the end of his third year he received his B.Sc. degree with the senior scholarship for New Zealand in geology and proximo accessit to the senior scholar in botany. In his fourth, year he won the Lubecki Scholarship for applied sciences, and in addition to this research work he read for his master of science degree, which he obtained with first class honours.
