PRICES IT TO 155 GUINEAS NEW PLYMOUTH, May 18. The success that attended IM Pinewoods stud unreserved dispersal sale, which opened the Taranaki Jersey week, demonstrated that there ir still a demand for Jerseys of quality A large attendance from all parts ot New Zealand assembled at the Pinewoods Oakura properly of Mr. G. H. Bell. Bidding demonstrated that the bulk of those present had come to buy and as a result at the end of the day 78 head had changed hands for an average of just over 424 guineas. This is the best average secured for years at a Jersey sale and even allowing that the Pinewoods stud has built up a great record for type and production, Ihe price must have proved very encouraging to Jersey enthusiasts, particularly as It included all females from two-year-old in-call heifers to aged cows. Altogether fin cows realised a total of 25661 guineas, or nearly 43 guineas each, six realising over three figures. The top price of 155 guineas was realised by a rising six-year-old cow, Pinewoods Bright Link fPinewoods Sybil You'll Do—Pinewoods Bright Fern), the purchaser being Dr. G. Walker, or Whangarei. He was also the purchaser of the next two highest-priced cows, bidding 121 guineas for an eight-year-old cow, Pinewoods Ferns Goldie (Golden Ferns Volunteer (imp. —Pinewoods Golden Sylvia), and 115 guineas for a seven-year-old cow, Hua Brook P.oseaire (Hawkesbury Lord Bob—Oakvales Fancy). Two of the highest-priced cows remained in Taranaki, Mr. J. L. Corlett, of Ratapiko, paying 105 guineas for an eight-year-old eow, Pinewoods Volunteers Pet fGolden Fern Volunteer Eaton Melva) and 116 guineas for her daughter, Pinewoods Valley Daisy by the imported Vagabond of Oaklands The four-year-old cow, Pinewood! Countess Sybil (Pinewoods Sybil You’ll Do—Pinewoods Ferns Countess), realised 105 guineas, the purchaser being Mr. A. C. Mules, of Portobello. Otago. Seven two-year-old in-calf heifers averaged 26 1-3 guineas, the top price being 35 guineas, while 10 bulls averaged just under 47 guineas, the top price of 81 guineas being paid by Mr. E. W. Garland, ot Matamata, for a rising two-year-old. Ngamotu Royal Count (Pinewood! Loyal Rex). Compte Starlight, the eight-year-old herd sire, realised 721 guineas, the purchaser being Mr. ,T Hopping, of Rahotu. The top price for a yearling bull was 60 guineas foi a son of Pinewoods Valley Daisy by the imported Brampton Standard Compte. The cattle were well distributed, going to North Auckland, the Waikato, the East Coast, Manawatu, Otago and Taranaki. At the Woodlands dispersal the rising three-year-old stud bull, Woodlands Gold Shot, show champion, realised 240 guineas, the purchasers being Messrs. Porter and Field, of Kumeu, North Auckland.
