BURDEN ON TAXPAYER

DUTIES ON MATERIALS FOR ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION [Per Press Association.) TEAROHA, May 24. At the annual meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board the following resolution was passed: “That the Thames Valley Power Board considers the imposition oi customs duties upon materials required in electrical construction work and on electrical appliances is diametrically opposed to the announced policy of the Government to popularise the further use of electric current. That such duties not only tend to defeat the policy of popularising electricity, but their existence concurrently with huge expenditure for increasing the capacity of hydro-electric works amounts to a ridiculous and wasteful internal conflict in State policy, thus imposing avoidable burdens upon consumers and tax players. This board therefore urges the Government ro remove all duties upon electrical construction materials and appliances.”'
