SURREY ALL OUT
AUSTRALIA BATS AGAIN BRADMAN AFTER 1000 RUNS Received May 25, 1.10 a.m. LONDON, May 24. The weather was line and the wicket good for the resumption of tne cricket match at the Ovai. The first over from O’Reilly, in which he bowled Watts and Gover with successive balls, ended the Surrey innings. Despite being 257 runs ahead and with 43 hours in which to attempt an outright victory, Bradman decided to bat again. The decision meant a draw, which is practically certain, dictated by a desire to improve the chance of Hassett and himself to obtain 1000 runs in May or give batting practice to those in need thereof. Badcock and Barnett opened Australia’s second innings at 11.50. The Surrey fieldsmen looked bored. At the luncheon adjournment Australia had made 121 runs without loss, Badcock making 58 not out and Barnett 60 no out. Extras accounted for 3 of the total. Scores were:— Surrey. First Innings (continued). Watts, b O’Reilly . 22 Brookes, not out ig Gover. b O'Reilly ( Extras ... jy Total 271 Bowling.—Waite, nil for 34: O'Reilly, eight for 104; Ward, two for 96: White, nil for 20. It was learned that Bradman did not insist on the follow-on due to a desire to rest his bowlers, chiefly O’Reilly, McCormick and FleetwooiiSmith.
