Wanganui Croquet Chib. Members of the Wanganui Croquet Club and intending members are invited to be present at the annual meeting of the club to be held at. 2.15 p.m. to-morrow (May 26) at the Wanganui Bowling Club pavilion, Nelson Street.

Bridge Party. A brightly-burning log fire and vases filled with autumn-tinted leaves and Iceland poppies made the room very cheery and attractive for the bridge players, who assembled at the home of Mrs. A. Body, Alma Road, on Monday afternoon, in order to assist the funds of the Gonville Club. There were five tables in play and the hidden number was won by Mrs. Beard. Among those present were Mesdames Body, Webb Jones, T. Warnock, F. Warnock, Svenson, Fisher, A. E. Halligan W. J. Stone Wainwright, Drake, Wood. Clark. Healey, Beard, Hampton. Walpole Uttley, Orchard and Wallace. Coniing-of-Age Party. On Saturday night a party to celebrate the twenty-first 'birthday of Miss Edna Cudby, was held at the home of her aunt. Mrs. H. Moran, St. John’s Hill. About 50 guests were present, including friends and relatives from Waitara and Wellington. The supper tables were decorated with autumntoned flowers, the birthday cake being iced in pink and decorated with candles and a gold key. The usual toasts were honoured. The guest of honour, who wore a frock of ivory water-waved cloque with shoulder

cape edged with white American lapin. was the recipient of many useful gifts. Mrs. Cudby wore navy pluma crepe. Games and dancing were enjoyed, Mr. Maurice Reid acting as M.C. Durie Hill School.

A most successful flag “500” evening was held at the Durie Hill School on Monday evening. The first prizes were won by Mrs. I. Spooner, Mrs. R. Garrett, Mr. A. J. Ratliff and Mr. A. G. Grant. Other prizes by Mrs. J. Newsome. Mrs. R. Roscoe, Mr. L. K. Monk and Mr. G. W. Caird. The function was in aid of the Durie Hill School Swimming Bath fund and produced a satisfactory response. An enjoyable supper was provided by the ladies’ committee. It was decided to hold further flag “500” evenings every Monday and to award a points prize.
