HITLER CHANGES PLAN
RETURNS SUDDENLY TO BERLIN SERIOUS APPREHENSION CAUSED LONDON, May 23. The Daily Telegraph and Morning Post’s Munich correspondent says Herr Hitler suddenly changed his plans lor a prolonged holiday m Munich and entrained for Berlin | to hold a special meeting with his • advisers. His hasty departure | occasioned serious apprehension | that the situation has become worse. The Australian Associated Press lays that relief was evident in the House of Commons after Mr Neville Chamberlain’s statement. Nevertheless the uncertainty must remain, especially as the Czechoslovakian election for two Sundays will embiace some of the most fervent Sudeten | towns. The danger remains of the possibility of further troop movements or incidents provoking conflict. Britain has firmly tola both sides in Czechoslovakia, in addition to Berlin that it is m their interests to se? that nothing occurs to precipitate a war. It appears that Germany's re- ■ sponse to earlier approaches urging; restraint were very cool, but the iat-' est trend of events, particularly Bri- ! tain’s firmness and France s steadiness, seem to 1 c clamed Germany Moreover, whe. the tendency on Saturday was to provocatively mov? troops, the attitude of all sides now appears to be more moderate. The immediate task is to restore a sense, of proportion between Dr. Hodza ana i Herr Henlein, to establish a reason- ! , able basis for negotiation.
