BERLIN’S WELCOME
HITLER RETURNS HOME “LIKE A CONQUERING HERO” BERLIN, May 10. Herr Hitler was welcomed home like a conquering hero. Enormous | crowds burst into cheering as he detrained and was greeted by Marshal j Goering, whereupon 400 Hitler Youtn trumpeters blew a fanfare. Italian • and German flags everywhere draped the fire-crowned pylons along the River Spree, searchlights flooding the I streets through which the Fuhr?r drove with blazing lights. Multi-col-oured fireworks, saluting guns, and deafening heils accompanied his entry to the Chancellory. In order to avoid offending his hosts, Herr Hitler did not halt crossing South Tyrol, crowds of Austrians merely having a glimpse of the speeding train. After crossing the Brenner Pass the train slowed down, enabling the crowds to see Herr Hitler, who was exceedingly suntanned and robust. Every station was decked with flowers, Herr Hitler frequently alighting to receive addresses of loyalty. CONCORDAT WITH VATICAN hitler may denounce it BERLIN, May 10. The Daily Telegraph and Morning Post’s correspondent says that it is most likely that Herr Hitler will denounce the concordat with the Vatican as the result of the Pope’s attitude while Herr Hitler was in Italy.
