Mr. J. C. Whibley, headmaster ol the Taihape District High School is attending the conference of the N.Z Educational Institute at Wellington. Rev. J. C. Abbott, vicar of St. Margaret’s, lef Taihape this week to attend the ministers’ retreat at Marton. At the inual meeting of the Taihape branch of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday, membeis stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Messrs. R. Wilkie and J. O’Dea. At the annual installation of officers cf the Otaihape Lodge last evening Mr. E. Dox was installed as Worshipful Master by Grand Lodge officers. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. Mr. Bruce Cleary, of Invercargill, who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. MacCallum, of Kaka Road, left yesterday on a visit overseas. Mr. C. M. Duthie, one of the vk - tims of the air tragedy near Auckland, conducted pasengcr flights from the property of Messrs. Bruce and Treadwell at Ngaurukehu on March 26, 1932, when he carried 23 passengers. He was recognised as sne of the most proficient pilots in Ne v Zealand and had never met with an accident, or made a forced landing until his tragic death. DEATH OF TAIHAPE RESIDENT An inquest on Henry James Harwood was held before Taihape district coroner (Mr. E. Loader). The coroner returned a verdict to the effect that dceea.sed committed suicide while mentaly depressed owing to the state of his health.
