FINAL GALLOPS

9N WANGANUI TRACKS YESTERDAY’S OPERATIONS Under ideal weather conditions, which provide a happy augury for the opening day of the winter meeting, the final training operations were carried out yesterday morning, but they did not throw very much more light on the problems ahead of patrons. One of the early workers was the Whangarei trainer H. W. Scally. who sent Viracious and Disturbed over four furlongs. They • were not out to make fast time, but their 53sec. was easily performed and they are in good order after their racing at the Egmont meeting. Perfect Idea was another out before breakfast, going half a mile, but the Lord Quex gelding was not required to make time. Bodyline was the first to make time after the breakfast interval, the Lord Quex horse moving nicely over three furlongs in 38sec. Huskie moved freely over a couple of circuits at a good half-pace. Silk Sox, To Huia and Even Money were sent oxer six furlongs and finished in the order named, Silk Sox registering lmin. 5 l-ssec. Master Norval worked solidly over a circuit, being timed over the last three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. Gaily was moving well at the end of six furlongs, the last four of which took her a shade over 51sec., which i was good time as she was wide out and was not fully extended. The Winter Oats candidate Great lope finished a little in front of rhala and Ambition over five furlongs, the time registered being a 1 ick over G3sec. Joe Louis pleased by his display over four furlongs, taking 51 2-ssec. for lhe half-mile after cutting out the first two furlongs in 25sec. He appears to be in great heart for his Wanganui engagements. Johnny Walls was another sprint candidate to please, taking lmin. 5 sec. for the last five of six furlongs, the intial three of these five taking a tick over 37sec. Begorrah was associated with Entheos and Charade in a spin over live furlongs, and Begorran finished in front in lmin. 4 2-ssec. Orate put up the smartest gallop of the morning, leaving four furlongs behind in 49sec., the initial quarter taking 24sec. The Oration gelding is in great heart. Artful Dodger, Clarion Call and Hunting Mint worked pleasingly, and In Command went over three flights of school hurdles in good style. SCRATCHED FOR WANGANUI j Since acceptances closed on Monday I night for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s | opening day, Trilitha was relieved of j her Balgownie Hack Handicap en- ■ gagement at 4.25 pjn. yesterday and I Aiwai was scratched for all engage--1 ments at 7.30 p.m.
