ON AWAPUNI TRACKS

WANGANUI CANDIDATES YESTERDAY’S GALLOPS ’ (Special to “Chronicle") PALMERSTON N., May 10. ■ Awapuni stables are well repre- • sented at Wanganui and this morning’s gallops were interesting without being instructive. The course proper was open with the flags well out and the going was particularly good. Absentees from the track were Clarion I Call, Entheos, Great Hope and Erei bus. who are already in Wanganui. , ' One of the first to go against the watch was Sky Full (B. Brown), who. With a companion ridden by G. R. Tattersail, ran half a mile in 55. Puroto (Tattersall) beat Silver River (K. Breuer) over seven furlongs run in 1.35. Silver River made the pace to the straight. They were quickly away and they averaged 13 to the furlong for the first three and ran four in 53. Both look well. Taillight (J. Williamson) beat i Pango (W. J. Broughton) over six furlongs. After a very slow start they covered half a mile in 55 and they went on to complete in 1.22 2-5 without being ridden out. Gay Molly (N. Voitre) ran an easv six. coming home the last two in 27. An addition to C. Thomson’s string is Stroll In. the half-brother of Stroller. Cuddler (Tattersall) and Prediction (Breuer) were companions over six furlongs and they were not required to do better than even time for the first three. They were speeded up for the last three but, unfortunately, it was not possible to pick up the peg. They were moving well, however, and Cuddler, going easily, was in front at the finish, the last five taking 1.10. Old Surrey (S. Anderson) sprinted seven furlongs on his own. cutting out the last six in 1.24 k High Peer (Broughton) beat Selkirk (Dye) over five run in 1.9. The Thomond gelding is likely to have his first race at Foxton. Merryman sprinted three furlongs in 39 1-5, moving nicely. Interesting Gallop One of the most interesting items on the morning's programme was the six furlong flutter of Catalogue <H. Johnstone) and Conveyer (Anderson). They went away to an even start, being timed to run the first two in 26 2-5 and three in 40 3-5. They were together at the home turn and without being extended they ran th? full distance in 1.20. A newcomer to the course this morning was Mr T. 11. Lowry’s three-year-old filly. White Gold, by Hunting Song from Pure Gold. White Gold, who is now in Mrs A. W. McDonald’s stable, won the Trial Handicap at the Wanganui spring meeting and made a very good impression. but she was unplaced in two subsequent starts. She has not raced for some considerable time, but she looks to be in very good nick now and she should not take long to get back into racing condition. Royal Limond (Lewer) and Whistle Pinkie (H. Johnstone) were companions over a mile and after running the first half-mile in even time they increased the pace to complete in 1.56. Royal Limond looks very well. He will be ridden by Allan McDonald at Wanganui. ' Quadroon (Tattersall) looked none th? worse after a half-mile sprint which took him 54. Warehi (Williamson) was just, in front of Porotiti (Broughton) at th? ?nd of seven furlongs, the last six of which took 1.21 3-5. Sporting G : ft (Breuer) just beat Sporting Luck (Bright) over three j furlongs, which were run in a tick I under 41. • Power Chief (A. McDonald) had a I flutter over the country. giving a I good exhibition of jumping over seven 'of the steeplechase fences. He is uni aoubtedly improving at the game. ! Aero Lad (Broughton) and Dainty 1 Sue (Anderson) were together at the i end of five furlongs run in 1.8. the | first three in 40.
