| WHAT GOVERN MENT HAS DONE I ADDRESS BY HON. P. FRASER [ Per PreSß - «soclatlon. ] WELLINGTON, May 10. i j A combined meeting of the Educa-j Itional Institute, Technical School) Teachers’ Association, and Secondary I School Teachers’ Association, was addressed by the Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education, to-day. He said i that during the two years and five I months the Government had been in office grants amounting to £1,380.066 had been made for school buildings, of which 1826,960 was for primary schools. He referred to ike increase in the size of the school committees and the restoration of grants to kindergartens, also the re-entry ol the live-year-olds. Four additional school’ medical officers had been appointed j and five additional nurses and 12 additional district nurses, whose duties usually include school work. There were now 140 training for the dental clinic and 20 new clinics were being established in districts where, until now, this service had not been available. The number of existing cjinics had been strengthened so th.it more) children could be treated. Of the 282,000 school children of the Dominion, 137,000 accepted mill: and the now schemes and extensions arranged included a further 14,6000 children. It was estimated that 8000 Maori children would in the near future receive the benefit of the melter milk | scheme.
