CANADIAN MUNITIONS
THE BRITISH ORDERS. Received May 10, 6.5 p.m. MONTREAL, May 9. A charge by Mr. M. J. Coldwell, a Commonwealth Federation member of the House of Commons, that Canada was linked with the “British war machine” drew a declaration from the Department of Defence that the manufacture of munitions in Canada was on a preparedness basis only, and there was no intention to establish permanent plants. United Kingdom orders for machineguns had been privately secured through private firms.
