WHANGANUI HISTORICAL COMMITTEE
| OBJECTS FORMULATED SUB-COMMITTEES ELECTED The second meeting of the Whanganui Historical Committee was held on Monday evening, when, on the motion of Mr. L. J. B. Chapple, chairman, five objects of the committee were decided. They are as follow: - 1. To collect and preserve all matter of historical importance to this district. 2. In particular to acquire books, pamphlets, diaries, letters, papers, photographs, documents, maps, etc., of historical importance and deposit them in either the museum or the public Horary. If it is nto possible to acquire them, if they are worth copying. 3. To write up a comprehensive account of the history of this district. 4. To publish a centennial memorial of Whanganui, a volume compiled upon the data collected. 5. To assist the Whanganui Centennial Committee in all matters falling within our scope and competence. Viz.: Verifying dates of important happenings, arranging an historical pageant, etc. Sub-committees were elected as follow: — Editorial.—Mr. L. J. B. Chapple (convener) and Messrs. T. W. Downes and H. C. Veitch. Pageantry.—Mr. T. R. Dix (convener) and Mrs. F. Spurdie. Miss Graham, Mr. J. Denton and Mr. T. McDonnell. Finance.—Mr. F. H. Bethwaitt (convener), and Messrs. McGregor ajid .Tack
