, CHING—CATHRO j A lovely gown of dull-finished satin riche was worn by Helen Mary, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Cathro, Leamington Street, Gonville, for her e marriage to Jack Hamilton Watters. 3 second son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ching, j Wilson Street, Wanganui, at Knox s Presbyterian Church, Gonville, on t Saturday afternoon, May 7. The Rev. j L. H. Ker officiated and Mr. Cathro gave his daughter' away. ; Attractively designed, the bride’s s gown fell to a graceful long train. Ruched in -front from a high waistline the bodice had a round faggotted yoke. The full bishop sleeves were .1 ruched into the shoulder line and finy r.shd at the wrists with small cuffs, s Inset at the back was a softlyt gathered bow from beneath which the attached train was ruched into a ej panel effect widening out at the e end and showing off to advantage the ; large cluster of arum lilies and s leaves, made of ring velvet, which t adorned the edge. Over the gown s fell the tulle veil, daintily embroid- £ ered and worn cornerwise from a - narrow circlet of orange blossom . buds. Her sheath bouquet was of " carnations, roses, pink dahlias and d maidenhair fern. Attending the bride were Miss Joan Ching (chief), sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Miriam Eaton as a bridesmaids, and Miss Patricia Mur--1 ray, cousin of the bride, as flower s girl. Becoming frocks of chenille - crepe satin were worn by the brides- - maids, Miss Ching choosing spring ’. shade and Miss Eaton a princess pink, s They were made in redingote style - with cowled sleeves, collar, and the - new wide revers. The skirts were s tight-fitting to below the hips, then ? flared to fullness to the tips of their r silver shoes. Girdles of plaited c material and silver encircled the ? waists and plaited bands with sprays - of flowers to match each frock were . worn. They carried bouquets to - tone of roses, dahlias, carnations and maidenhair fern. The flower girl wore a dainty frock of whit silk suede and carried a silver basket of flowers. ’ Mr. Leonard Canty acted as best I man and Mr. Gordon Cathro, the 7 bride’s brother, was groomsman. J The reception which followed was *- held at the Victoria Hall, where Mrs. • Cathro received the guests wearing a c frock of red rust cloque, velour hat 3 to match and fur .stole. She held a • bouquet in autumn tonings. Mrs. J Ching, mother of the bridegroom, ■ wore a frock of navy blue embroidered sheer silk, with navy blue velour J hat. Her bouquet was in autumn tonings. > When the bridal pair left on their ' honeymoon tour, the bride wore a r navy blue tailored costume, hat, coat and accessories to match. II / GONVILLE BOWLING CLLB i 1 1 ( ARI) AND DANCE EVENING There was an excellent attendance ' of members and friends at the opent ing card and dance evening, run , under the auspices of the Gonville 1 Bowling Club, on Saturday night last / in the Masonic Hall, Tawa Street. [ These functions have proved very popular during the last ten years, and - judging by the attendance on Saturl day night should prove a great suci cess this year. During the evening the president, . Mr J. A. Chenery, thanked those present for their attendance and, in stat* 1 ing that these functions would take place every Saturday night, said that the bowlers would do all in their power to make them enjoyable. ■ Flag “500” was played, followed by a dance and supper. The winners were:—The winning table, Mr and Mrs Wilton, Mrs Guth* rie and Mr Lee; consolations, Mesdames Gray and Gower, Messrs Fisher and Gordon. Monte Carlo winners were Mr and Mrs Downs and Miss Fisher and Mr Chisholm. There was an attendance of well over a hundred.
