Cameron, of South Road, Hawera, is paying a short visit to Wanganui. Mrs. McCabe, of Wellington, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. C. R. Morton, Victoria Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Donald, Featherston, are visiting Wanganui. Mrs. W. D. Bell, Hawera, arrived in Wanganui at the week-end and will also visit Raetihi. Mrs. F. J. Nancarrow, Plymouth Street, has returned after a holiday spent in Dunedin and Wellington. Miss Margarette Davis, of Hunterville, is spending the school vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. C. Davis, Taihape. Mrs. W. R. S. Brewer, “Waihau,” Waitotara, returned on Thursday after a six weeks’ trip to Australia. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Webster and Miss Joan Webster, of New Plymouth, will be the guests of Mr. G. F. Moore, Bushy Park, for the race meetings. Spending the school vacation in Wanganui are Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Brown, of Rangiwaea, who are staying with Mrs. Brown’s mother, Mrs. C. A. Piper, Heads Road. Mrs. Tom Latham, St. John’s Hill, has had her sister, Mrs. Skinner, of Shanghai, staying with her for a few, days before going on to visit relatives in the South Island. * • • • Major E. Blenkinsop, field organiser of the Girls’ Life Brigade, who has been touring New Zealand, will leave Auckland on Friday on her return to England. She hopes to visit the Dominion again in a few years. PHYSICAL CULTURE AN AID TO HEALTH EVERY WOMAN’S HEALTH CENTRE "Health is better than wealth," re-| marked an onlooker al the class of Everywoman’s Health Centre last! week. “Yes," replied a member efi the class, “and exercise is necessary ■ io good health and good health should I be the ambition of every woman." i People are at last beginning to realise the wisdom of keeping fit and! exercising for the promotion of physi-' cal fitness. It was illuminating 1o visit the' weekly class held by the Everywoman’s Health Centre and see the work, being done by the Wanganui! branch of the centre. Considerably ■ more than a hundred women joined j in the exercises. Miss E. Newrick, the new teacher, explained the rea-1 sons for the exercises. All the mem-' bers—young, and not so young—fol-I lowed intently the instructions and! the movements demonstrated by the | teacher, keeping in rhythm with the i music. Examples of every type ol toping exercise for circulation, I breathing and for every part of the! body from head to foot were given and were a pleasure to watch. The! exercises taught are derived from a famous scientific system designed expressly for women. Prior to the commencement of the class exercises, Mrs S. Newsome thanked all for the way they had attended the classes, and in welcoming! Miss Newrick, said she felt sure that'

all would support the new teacher. In reply. Miss Newrick expressed thank* to Mesdames Newsome, Gaskin and Martin for the wonderful way they had carried on the classes between the change over from the former club to the Health Centre. She referred to the tremendous growth of the movement in England, where a few years ago the centre started with eight and now has 120,000 members. Earlier in the year 30 had been enrolled in Wanganui and now the membership was 200.
