WAITOTARI COUNTY

WOkli OF THE 2.IONTH. At yesterday's meeting of the Waitoa;i\i County Council the engineer, Mr. T. R. Dix. presented a report of work done in the county in the past month. It stated :- “General. ♦ The advent of winter brings with it the seasonal metal patching. All roads are now receiving attention. This winter there appears to be more metal patching than usual. This may be accounted for by the worn-out condition of many of the roads. “The sawmiller who has cutting rights over bush at Ahu Ahu started to cart his plant over the Rangitatau East - Watershed highway. The mac hinery weighs more than the limit of loading allowable under the road classification. I stopped the carting of the plant as he did not apply for the necessary permit, which is given only after an agreement is entered into to cover the cost of damaged on by carting if compensation is necessary. “Brunswick-Westmere Riding.—The Sprinvale-Francis, Heads - Mosston, Rapanui, Blueskin and Wanganui River highways, and the Virginia Road were graded and metal patched. The Western Line, Brunswick and the Tokomaru East and West Roads were also metal patched. Studs for traffic control were place along curves on the Sprinvale-Francis and HeadsMosstown highways. Watertables were cleaned along the TokomaruEast and West, Kowhatunui, Sewell, Brunswick, Kaikokopu, Campbell, Western Line and Kai Iwi Valley Roads. Tenders are now being invited for metalling three-quarter mile at the lower end of the Wanganui River highway. “Waitotara Riding. Along the Rangitatau East-Watershed highway, willows were cut, watertables cleaned, slips were cleared and the roadway was metal patched. Surfacemen are widening a point at Rangitatau. The Waitotara Valley highway is being widened at under slips near Rangitatau. Watertables were cleaned and the roadway was metal patched. Slips were cleared and watertables were cleaned along the Rangitatau West and Junction Roads. “Mosston Riding.—Parsons Street, Fox Road, Fitzherbert Avenue and Heads-Mosston highway were metal patched and graded. Drains along Cornwall, Fox, Lincoln and Oxford Roads were cleaned. “Tokomaru Riding.—The metalling of the Ahu Ahu Road has been suspended on account of wet weather. Work will not be resumed until next spring. “The upper portion of the Ahu Ahu Road was graded. The wet condition of the road has prevented the grader from being brought to town. “Along the Rangitatau East-Waler-shed highway and the Kauarapaoa watertables were cleaned, slips were cleared, and the roadways were metal patched.”
