WRESTLING

LEO. JENSEN TO MEET JACK KENNEDY RACE NIGHT ATTRACTION BOTH MEN IN PINK OF CONDITION. Although Jack Kennedy, who is to oppose Leo Jensen in the professional wrestling bout at Wanganui next Thursday night had an arm injured in his recent bout Andy Moen at Wellington, the damage was only slight, causing only a short interruption to Kennedy’s training programme. The arm, which was the subject of a protracted and severe hammer lock applied by Moen was carefully examined after the contest and it was found that the injury comprised nothing more than a slight strain. The troubld quickly yielded to expert treatment and, after a day or so, Kennedy was able to use it as well as ever, and he will probably have forgotten the injury entirely by the time he goes into the ring against Jensen. The incident was only one such as wrestlers take in their stride, their strength and powers of recuperation enabling them to recover exceedingly quickly from anything less than a broken bone. The most serious effect of the hammer lock in question so far as Kennedy was concerned was that, although it did not force him to yield a submission fall, it handicapped him sufficiently for Moen to be able to take the decision in the last round. Even so there were many who clamoured for Kennedy to be awarded at least a draw and, had the points been counted over the whole bout, instead of only over the last round, there is no doubt at all that Kennedy would have won. Such is the man who is to meet Jensen and the qualities which he has displayed, combined with what. Jensen has shown the local public he possesses, makes a great match a certainty. Special amateur preliminaries have been arranged to complete the night’s programme. •The draw for the amateur preliminaries is as follow: K. Terry v. E. Mete Kingi. E. Rohloff v. E. Garland. P. Wiwi v. K. Hogg. J. Thompson v. M. Yunavitch. Emergency bout: M. Tonga v. M. Reupena.
