Sir,—The manifesto of the Labouf Party states that Labour candidates stand for "a more vigorous policy of tar sealing streets and footpaths, instead of disposing of the tar so urgently needed for our own works and services.” This also means just nothing. Last year the City Council £ could use no more than about £4OO worth of tar, while the Gas Department disposed of nbout £4OOO worth. So the selling of our tar is not the “ reason for many of pur streets and footpaths still requiring treatment. If all our streets and footpaths worn u treated in one year, there would still be some of our tar for sale. ’ Statements such as the above, in a S manifesto of "policy" make it clear that those pledged to support sucT ’’ "policy” have little or nothing to ree commend them as City Councillors.
