Dressed in a crinoline gown of silver orocade, which was worn by her grandmother, the Grand Duchess Marie-Alexandrovna, when she was married to the Duke of Edinburgh in 1874, Princess Kyra, second daughter of the Grand Duke Cyril, heir to the Throne of the Tsars, was married at a civil ceremony to Prince Louis Ferdinand, the ex-Kaiser’s favourite grandson, heir to the Hohenzollern estates. The ceremony took place at the Cecilianhof, the former Crown Prince’s residence, near Potsdam, after which a Russian marriage service took place in the presence of a hundred royalties. The men wore brilliant uniforms of the Russian and German Imperial armies and the women wore diadems, recalling the splendour of the former empires. The couple will visit the ?x-Kaiser at Doorn on May 4, when they will be married according to German Evangelical rites. The presents include a gift from Queen Mary. Both the bride and the bridegroom are great-grandchildren of Queen Victoria.

Temporary measures to be taken by Japan for the regulation ot customs matters in the areas occupied by the Japanese forces in China during the period of hostilities are dealt with in comuniques issued in London and Tokio. According to the arrangements, which will be subject to reconsideration in the event of a radical change occurring in the economic conditions, all revenues collected by customs at each port within the areas under Japanese occupation are to be deposited with a Yokohama special bank. From the revenues thus deposited the foreign loan quotas will be remitted lo the Inspector-General of Customs to meet in full the servicing of foreign loans and indemnities secured on the customs revenue. The arrangements are the result of negotiations conducted by the British Ambassador at Tokio with Japan since last February and having regard to the military situation in the Far East appear to Britain to offer the best guarantee obtainable for safeguarding the interests of holders of China foreign obligations secured on the customs revenue, and thereby to assist in maintaining China's credit.
