Captain Scott, of the steamer Stancroft, a sister-ship of the Stanbrook. reporting on air raids in Barcelona in which splinters struck the majority of twelve British steamers in the harbour, declared that the British masters were disgusted with the Gov--1 ernment for not protesting against Herr Hitler's and Signor Mussolini’s trampling on the British flag, which is now ranked below the Panama Ensign. The British si earner Surrey brook, which has arrived at Port Vcndres, France, reported that three unknown aeroplanes attacked her east of Barcelona, ineffectually dropping six bombs. An S.O.S. from the Surreybrook brought French destroyers to the rescue. PORTUGAL’S DECISION RECOGNITION OF FRANCO LISBON, May 1. The Portuguese Government is recalling its representative from Spain, and is appointing an Ambassador to General Franco’s Government. A Lisbon message published on Saturday stated that the Premier of Portugal, Dr. Salazar, told the National Assembly that Portugal would shortly recognise General Franco's Government.
