CROQI ET CLUB. On Thursday afternoon the Waver-i ley Croquet Club held its annual meeting in the Town Board room, Mrs [ S. Bromiley presiding. Those present were Mesdames Train. Ecer, N. | Bromiley, Muir, Alexander, Sheppard. , Heginbotham, Pepper, Thomas. Mitcalfe. Misses Lupton, McMeekin. Cheyne. Cleary. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs. 11. J. Wilson, Walkinton, Palmer, Barrow Parsons. Hodgson. The trophies won during the year were presented by the retiring pre- ; sident as follows:—Handicap doubles. • Mrs. N. Bromiley and Miss Cleary; Yankee . singles, Mrs. Beer; senior > champion, Mrs. Pepper; junior champion. Mrs. Thomas; runner-up, Miss i Lupton. The president thanked the following donors of trophies: Mesdames Train. Mitcalfe. Bromiley, Beer, Strachan [ and Pepper. The election of officers for the : forthcoming year was as follows:—| President, Mrs. S. Bromiley (.re-; elected*; vice-president, Mrs. Train | (re-elected’; secretary, Mrs. Sheppard j (re-elected); committee. Mrs. Alex-' ander. Mrs. Pepper and Miss Me- I Meekin; handicap committee, Mrs. ■ Muir, Mrs. Beer and Miss Lupton; ;■ club captain, Mrs. Beer < re-elected»; tea committee representative. Mrs.) Mitcalfe: ladder stew ai 1, M M - Meehin. It was resolved to hold, next season, i Progressive croquet on the first Saturday of each month. It was decided that the club wo.ildj raise half the cost of the new electee’ urn for the Tennis and Croquet Club pavilion. A vote of thanks was passed for the work done by the retiring committee! and with a vote of thanks to the chai: . the meeting concluded. GIFT AFTERNOON. Mrs. E. Parsons* beautiful home; was the setting of a very jolly bridge! party nn Thursday afternoon when ■ Miss Jean Parsons and Mrs. I. D.' Parsons entertained in honour of Miss Margaret A.exander, w hose marriage j lakes place next month. Mrs. I. D.: Parsons was attired in an Arabian • night blue-draped novelty marocain gown, while Miss Parsons chose a black laqued satin frock patterned in 'i mauve and silver. When the bride-j elect arrived, wearing a frock of Lon-! don tan sylvan cloque, fashioned in. redingoat style, with a cape falling | from the shoulders and brown acces-! sories, she was presented with a : charming shoulder spray of deep apri-. cot-toned rose buds. The spacious billiard-room, where | the card tables were set out, was de- i corated with green and winter-tinted hydrangeas and the drawing-room [ was very attractive with a beautiful I basket of lemon chrysanthemums and [ bowls of berries. The winners of the bridge were Mrs. K. Honey‘ ; eld first and Miss M. 1 Alexander second. After a dainty afternoon tea had ! been enjoyed, the hostesses asked the i guest of honour to accept the numer-1 ous pantry gifts the guests had • brought with them with all good I wishes for the future. When these ■ had been opened and Miss Alexander j had thanked her hostesses and friends for their kindness, the singing of “For She's a Jolly Good Fellow” brought the very happy afternoon to a close. Davidson (Patea), J. Alexander. PERSONAL. Mrs. S. Carter, who has been th guest of her sister Mrs. Walkintoi., “Belmont,” has returned to Te Arolia. Mrs. E. Sampson. Wanganui, is the guest of her father, Mr. W. R. S. Brewer. “Waihau.” Miss J. Daniell (India) and Miss D. Daniell (Opaku) are the guests of Mrs. Mitcalfe.
