RUGBY PLAYERS ON TRANSFER
J. WELLS FOR MANAWAR
Transfer to Palmerston North of J. Wells, Wellington representative and 1936 All Black forward, will mean the loss to Athletic Club of a player who had much to do with the success of the Athletic pack in the last few seacons, says the Sports Post. Wells was a good forward leader, if for no other reason than that he made something of a fetish of physical fitness and was always going strong at the end of the hardest game. Some doubt had been expressed whether
Wells, if he had remained in Wei- i lington, would have played regularly* this season, but it would have I been
hard to believe that he would have been content to have remained on the "bank" at all. Perhaps, however, with his move to Bulls he will have less incentive now to play than if he had stayed in Wellington.
J. Best, one-time Marlborough representative and a member of the 1935 New Zealand team which toured Britain, who was transferred last year to Hamilton, has had a further change. He is now at Whakatane. Best played in the New Zealand trials last season and also for Waikato against the Springboks. His change of residence now makes him eligible for the Bay of Plenty side.
Graham, who showed good form at full-back on the West Coast last year, is now in Wellington and has joined up with the Petone Club. Graham showed promising form in a practice
game in heavy going recently, and Petone expect him to be a very useful addition to the senior side.
