OHAKEA

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon, there being a fair attendance. The president (Mrs. B. Frecklington) welcomed a new member (Mrs. Williams) and also a visitor (Mrs. Mitchell). An invitation was received from the Parewanui Women’s Institute to their birthday on May 4. Mrs. S. Klatt and Miss J. Murray were appointed delegates to attend the council meeting in Palmerstin on April 28. It was decided to have a lecture on the W.E.A. at the next month's meeting. It was also decided to hold a carnival dance on May 24 for institute funds.

An interesting demonstration was given on the Beatty washing machines. The winners of the competitions for the afternoon were as follow:—Wheatmeal scones: Mrs. Ingram (seniors), Miss Tremain (juniors). Best bloom: Mrs. Ingram (seniors), Miss Tremain (juniors). A very enjoyable afternoon was brought to a close with the playing of the National Anthem. GENERAL Heavy rainfall has been experienced this last week. Owing to the quick growth of new grass, eczema has made its appearance amongst the sheep. Mushrooms are plentiful after the rain. Rainfalls recorded at the school for the last week are .49, .75, .7, .15, and .59ins. PERSONAL The friends of Mrs. E. Ingram will regret to learn that she has had to enter hospital to undergo an operation.

Mrs. C. Lassen, Hastings, has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. Masters for the Easter holidays.

Mrs. J. Capstick has returned home, having been holidaying at Canterbury, The friends of Mr. J. Ellery, sen., will regret to learn that he has had to enter a private hospital in Palmerston.
