ANZAC CONCERT
A PACKED OPERA HOUSE WAR-TIME TUNES RECALLED The Wanganui Returned Soldiers' Association successfully presented "The Old Brigade” in “Whizz Bangs,’’ in the Opera House last night. It was a fitting finale to the day’s undertaking, and although the weather waa uncongenial the building was packed to the doors. The theme was based on war memories and stressed the importance ol safeguarding peace. It was indeed a well-staged show and the cause, distressed returned soldiers, was well rewarded. The script called for a s\me in a radio broadcasting studio first of all, and that gave scope for the creation of an “Uncle Scram,” “Aunt Maisle,” “Miss Dina Mite.” The second scene was a board a troopship and the final in the trenches, the whole work culminating in the “Boys of the Old Brigade.” The audience got a thrill out of the performance, and the an of patriotism pervading the building brought cheers for the flag. Promoters and performers are deserving of full credit for the undertaking.
