Broad- [ bent, arrived at Lympne at 10.52 j p.m., beating Miss Jean Batten's re- ! cord by 12 hours 53 minutes. He left I Rome at 2.30 p.m. I In November, 1935, Broadbent established the solo flight aeroplane record for the trip from England to Australia. He used a Percival Gull 'plane, and took 6 days 21 hours 14 minutes. In October, 1936, Miss Jean Batten did the England-Australia flight in 5 days 21 hours 3 minutes. Leaving Australia on April 27, 1937, I Broadbent arrived in England on May 3, breaking H. L. Brook’s record time for a solo flight from Australia by nearly a day and a-half. He took 6 ‘ days 10 hours 55 minutes. In October, 1937, Miss Jean Batten captured the record, making the trip between Australia and England in 14 hours 10 minutes less than the time taken by Mr Broadbent. At the time Miss Batten was making that flight, Broadbent set out on an attempt to break Miss Batten's England-Australia record, but encountered bad weather, and ■ abandoned the journey at Bagdad.
