Meteorological Office, Wellington, Monday, April 25; 3 p.m. General Situation.—A rather deep cyclonic depression is centred east of Poverty Bay and is moving slowly southward, while a deep westerly depression covers south-eastern Australia. An anti-cyclone of slight intensity covers the North Tasman. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong southerlies to south-easter-lies from Nelson and Marlborough northwards, reaching gale or strong gale force in places between Cape Palliser and East Cape; light 1o moderate north-east to north-west over the remainder of the South Island and later freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough to high between Cape Palliser and East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate but rising north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura and later in the far South. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate south-westerly winds in the northern portion with moderate seas; light to moderate north-westerlies and slight seas in the southern portion bu wind and sea later increasing. Weather: Mainly fair but with scattered rains in North Auckland and on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere cloudy to overcast and in places misty or foggy with intermittent rains. Further heavy falls and flooding in the Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay. Temperatures mild.
