Francis Drake attempted to lead all the way and still headed the field into the straight from Enge, Day Wind, Llangollen and Gay Rose. In a fine finish Gay Rose got up to win by half a length from Francis Drake, with a similar distance to Day Wind, who was followed by Malagigi, Golden Sheila. Enge and Llangollen.
