HITLER’S ROME VISIT
POPE MAY NOT BE AT HOME Herr Hitler plans to meet the Pope when he visits Rome next month for discussions with Signor Mussolini. It is believed, however, that the Pope is not willing to meet him. Probably the Pontiff will leave, about the time of Herr Hitler's visit, for his country residence, Cast el Gandolfo. The Archpishop of Vienna (Cardinal Innitzer) has left for Vienna after visiting the Vatican. There he had interviews with the Pope and the Papal Secretary for State (Cardinal Pacelli). ft is believed lhe Popp instructed Cardinal Innitzer to convey to Herr Hitler what a’most amounts to an ultimatum. Tt e’emands full g'arantces of the rights of Catholics throughout the Reich as the basis of any new concordat. The official Vatican newspaper. Osservatore Romano, says that, in Inking the action ho did. Cardinal Innitzer did not. intend to sacrifice the rights of the Church.
