SERVICE WITH JAPAN
JAPANESE SHIPPING LINE REPRESENTATIVE VISITS WELLINGTON [ Per Press Association. ) WELLINGTON, April 19. A representative of Osaka Syosen Kaisha Japanese shipping line, vessels of which call regularly at Wellington in a direct service with Japan, Mr N. Nomura, arrived a‘ Wellington by the Awatea to-day. He left Kobe about two months ago and had spent some time in Sydney, where he will be stationed for the next three years.
Mr Nomura is making a tour of the principal po’-ts of call in Australia and New Zealand of the O.S.K. ships in order to be conversant with local conditions.
Speaking of the Japanese war, he said that many of the ordinary people of Japan had little realisation ot what was going on. The war w r as in another country and they felt it did not concern them vitally. On the other hand, the more intelligent people w ere following the progress of events closely. He said that o an extent th- war had stimulated trade and industry in Japan. Mr Nomura w’as met on arrival by a representative of the Federal Company, O.S.K. agents in New Zealand
