NOTED FOOTBALLER STEPHEN BLOOMER DEAD LONDON, April 16. The death is announced of the former well-known footballer, Mr. Stephen Bloomer. He had only been back from a visit to New Zealffhd and Australia for three weeks. Idol of English Soccer crowds just prior to the Great War and one o£ the greatest scoring forwards Britain has ever produced, Mr. S. Bloomer, the former Derby County and Middlesbrough player, arrived in Auck land on a visit on January 7 last. Mr. Bloomer was travelling for health reasons. Mr. Bloomer commenced his playing career in 1892 as a member of the Derby County side. When he retired in 1914 he held the English League record ffer the number ol goals scored, having registered 352. Tnat record stood until last season, when it was beaten by W. R. Dean, of Everton, who, between the years 1923 and 1937, scored 375 goals. Mr. Bloomer represented England in international matches on 23 occasions.
