BULLS
PAKEWANVI SCHOOL. The head teacher’s report presented at the annual meeting of householders at Parewanu, stated, inter alia: “The school roll is at present lower than for several years, standing at 41. Since last meeting the general efficiency of the school has been raised to a very high standard, while the environment speaks for itself. Such development, however, could not have been achieved without the wholehearted support and co-operation of the committee in providing essential needs for the successful carrying out of a much broader programme than in previous years on the school’s history. In order to develop individuality the principles of education in future must needs tend to an everwidening outlook, and this demands continued co-operation between committees and teachers. Sporfs, and arts and crafts are a new feature of the school’s activities, both of which have been entered into with enthusiasm by the children. Several pupils have qualified for swimming certificates ranging from 50 to 220 yds. In regards to swimming, thanks are due to Mr. J. G. Mitchell for the use of Flock House baths. Means of transport should be considered to enable our boys’ football team to participate in school matches. During the year extensive .-.lterations have been made to the school residence, while the school has been repainted. At considerable expense the committee has made numerous additions to equipment, while the area laid down in concrete has been further increased. The excellent work done by the retiring committee should be placed on record.”

This Easter was the worst on re- I cord, heavy rain marring the holidays I and motorists, with camping outfits, | had a miserable itme. Accidents were ( remarkably few considering the heavy ' volume of traffic. On Tuesday morn- j ing several overturned cars were noticed between Turakina and Bulls, one near the Turakina cutting, and two at Heaton Park gates, but no particulars are available as to how the occupants fared. Rugby is now the chief topic here, and although several of the best of last season’s players hate left the district it is considered likely that Bulls i will again field fairly strong teams. The Rangitikei Ladies’ Golf Club's season will open to-morrow (Thursday), when Canadian foursomes will be played.
