AN ENJOYABLE CABARET

The dancing season began in Wanganui on Saturday evening in the form of a holiday cabaret held at the Elrick. Dancers thronged the cabaret which was a cheery and successful affair. The annual meeting of the above was held in the Presbyterian School room on April 7, the chair being taken by Mrs. D. Simpson, of Marton. Also present were Miss Simpson, of Marton, and Miss D. Howie, of Wanganui, all of whom were presented with posies. Mrs. Lloyd Hammond, the retiring president, was also presented with a posy, and accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her splendid report for the year. Mrs. Scott-Maundrell was also thanked for her good work. The hostesses, Mesdames Atkins. Harre and Hirst dispensed a very dainty afternoon tea. Apologies were received from Mesdames Cruickshank, Bartlett, Graham. D. D. and G. Simpson and L. J. Thompson. The points prize for the year was won by Mrs. Lane. The election of officers resulted as follows:-President and housekeeping secretary, Mrs. Weston; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Morrison; assistant secretary. Mrs. Lane; vice-presidents. Mesdames Lloyd Hammond, Scott Maindrell, Aidworth, K. Dalziell; advisory members, Mesdames Hammond and Aidworth; provincial delegate, Mesdames Aidworth and A. Bartlett; press reporters, Mesdames D. Cameron and A. Harre.

According to the annual report submitted. the most important work of the branch during the year has undoubtedly been the formation of the junior board, which rapidly grew- until it has attained 50 members. The meetings through the year have been very well attended and there have been many activities. Among various functions which have been very successful financially, was a garden party,

which brought in the sum of £43, this excellent result being du? to the hard work and enthusiasm of the member.-. In conjunction with the local inslittues In conjunction with the local institutes a sale of goods for disabled soldiers and the blind institute was held, when the sums of £ll 18s 9d and £l3 6s 8d respectively were raised. Finance is in a very healthy condition. When £lO has been sent to Provincial and £5 ev.h for Girls Educational Week and delegates to Dominion Conference, the branch’s bank account will be £lB 18s. The officials and all who had assisted the work of the branch were warmly thanked for their co-operation and loyalty.
