SANDON
MANAWATU MINIATURE RIFLE ASSOCIATION The following report was submitted by the secretary (Mr.’ W. J. Jenkins) on behalf of ine executive, as the annual meeting of the Manawatu Miniature Rifle Association on Thursday evening:— The activities of the association during the past season proved successful and it was gratifying to see so many enthusiastic riflemen assembled for all competitions conducted. The standard of shooting was above that of the previous year and it now appears that the metric targets have done much to improve the snooting in this district. All competitions were keenly contested and nothing but true sportsmanship was shown in all matches. To the winners of the various competitions I wish to convey the executive’s congratulations. A club was formed in Marton and took part in all the association competitions. For a new club their shooting was of a very high standard and their enthusiasm and strength is sure to make them into a very sound club. The association was successful in inaugurating a club in Palmerston North, and although their activities commenced too late in the season this club made a very good start and will be a very welcome addition to the association this season. Fourteen clubs affiliated with the association and altogether 260 individual competitors took part in association matches. The Cliffe and Remington and the M.M.R.A. No. 1 Cup competitions again attracted entries from all affiliated clubs and the interest in these matches was maintained throughout the season. By winning the Cliffe and Remingston Cup for the sixth successive year Bulls again proved their supremecy as an A grade team. By consistent shooting the Feilding Club B grade team annexed the M.M.R.A. No. 1 Cup. Their score of 808 in the final of this competition being an exceptionally fine score for metric targets. O. Terry with an aggregate of 691 out of a possible 700, shot very consistently to win the individual aggregate in the Cliffe and Remington competition, and the Tisdall Cup for the highest individual aggregate in the M.M.R.A. competition was won by M. Pearce with a total of 674. Nine teams competed for the Jones Shield in the first shoot for this trophy ana Sandon proved successful. Eleven teams competed in the second competition, Sandon again winning. The trophy provided from donations made by delegates at the last annual meeting for the highest individual aggregate in these two matches was won by O. Terry. Nine teams competed for the first compettion for the Collinson Shield, Sandon winning after a very close shoot only two points separating the first four teams. In the second competition Feilding won comfortably from the other four teams competing. The trophy for the highest individual aggregate was won by K. Masters. The Hansen and City Cups for competition in the southern sections only, were both won by the Levin Club. Eleven teams competed for the Nobel Cup and Levin proved the winners for the first time. Fiftythree competed at the association championship and the shooting was of a very high standard. Mr. N. Amon of the Bulls Club, won the A grade and Mr. R. Andrews, of Aokautere, won the B grade. Only three teams competed in the Teams Championship Feilding defeating Aokautere by three points. Very keen shooting was again witnessed in the competition for the: McKelvie Cup. Although this trophy.
had been held by the Bulls Club throughout the previous season, this club at last suffered defeat and the end of the season found the cup helo by the Feilding Club. The executive recommend to the meeting that the Government should be approached with a view of getting financial assistance towards supplies of ammunition. The thanks of the association are due to all members and supporters who helped so willingly to make the past season one of the most successful yet enjoyed by the association .1 also with Io offer my personal thanks to the club secretaries for their cooperation and assistance during the season. Special thanks are due to the Press for their full reports of all the association activities.
