BOXING CROWN

CORBETT MATCHED WITH FRED STEELE TITLE BOUT MAY GO TO NEW YORK Freddie Steele’s next defence of his middle-weight boxing crown will be against Young Corbett of Fresno, either late in June or early in July, states the Vancouver Province. Through his manager, Eddie Miller, the Tacoma boy agreed to terms offered by Promoter Tony Palazola. To risk his title in the ten-round bout, Steele was offered a guarantee of 25,000 dollars, with the privilege of taking 37i per cent, of the gate receipts.

Miller telegraphed his acceptance of the terms.

Promoter Palazol-a said the date and site of the match would be determined after his meeting with Steele’s manager in a few days. It was generally believed the championship bout would be in New York, under the promotion of Mike Jacobs.
