The British Empire champion bowling skip, W. Bremner, West End, wag honoured by his fellow-members for his success in Sydney. The president of the West End Club, Mr. W. J. Thomass, presented him with a silver tea and coffee service.

The annual head-of-the-river rowing contest among Sydney secondary schools will take place on April 30. By a coincidence this is the date set down for the Auckland head-of-the-harbour competition, in which three Auckland secondary schools will take . part. /*

The new president of the South Auckland Rugby League is Mr. F. Macdonald, who is a member of the Huntly Borough Council, Mr. Macdonald has been connected with various sports clubs for many years, in Canada as well as in New Zealand. He is a keen supporter of Caledonian sports.

In the last three seasons, Miss K. Callinan, Canterbury's leading lady athlete, has been unplaced only seven times out of eighty-flve starts. Her record is 45 firsts, 15 seconds, 18 thirds. In the season just concluded she was first 19 times out of 32 starts, second four times and third six times.

The Australian Lawn Tennis Association will receive a profit of approximately £l6OO, and the Soulit Australian Association one of £l2OO from the Australian championships and the Test between America and Australia at Memorial Drive. Total gate receipts for the championships was £3900, and for the Test £560. Receipts and expenditure will about balance. r*

Mrs. J. H. Fitzgerald, secretary of the South African Lawn Tennis Union, is to manage the team of four to go to England to compete at Wimbleaon, possibly in the French championships. Mrs. Bobbie Heine-Miller, the South African champion, will be a member of the team. Mrs. Miller was last tn England in 1929, when, as Bobbie Heine, she won the British hardcourts championship at Bournemouth.

A prominent New Zealand athlete, O. Johnson, is to be married at Easter. Johnson has been a great allrounder and has heid New Zealand titles and records for jumping events and diving, while he also represented New Zealand at the Empire Games in Canada in 1930. In recent years, with his active days over, he has trained younger athletes in Dunedfn. His outstanding pupils are W. A. Pullar and T. Allen, the brilliant middle-distance runners, who performed so well tn the New Zealand championships in Auckland last year.

7 It is stated by the committee of the Northamptonshire Cricket Club that P. O'Brien, the former Canterbury batsman, will be available for Playing from July 3 onwards. It was also reported that W. E. Merritt, formerly of Canterbury, would be qualified to play for the club by 193 b. Northamptonshire reports a loss of 11401 on last season, but by a special effort this was reduced to a net loss of 1705.
