JACK HOLT IN “ROARING TIMBER”
“Educating Father,” the new Fox picture opening on Saturday at the Regent Theatre, tells a happy, hilarious story of how the up-and-coming youngsters of the Jones family bring dad up to date.
Jed Prouty plays the title role of “Dad” Jones, who finally graduates from the school of experience, after going through a series of, to him, harrowing adventures. Shirley Deane, Dixie Dunbar, Spring Byington, Kenneth Howell, June Carlson, George Ernest, Florence Roberts and William Mahan are also
featured. James Tinling directed “Educating Father,” with Max Golden associate producer. Columbia’s “Roaring Timber,” starring Jack Holt with Grace Bradley, Ruth Donnelly and Raymond Hatton in support, will be the second feature at the Regent Theatre. Set against the awesome eye-filling majesty of the Rocky Mountain timberlands, the story of “Roaring Timber” tells the dramatic tale of one man’s battle against nature’s fury and man’s treachery for supremacy in the north woods. Briefly, the film relates the story of Jim Sherwood (Jack Holt), two-fist-ed kingpin of the lumber camps, who agrees to cut a record volume of timber within six months. Before successfully completing his assignment he overcomes a forest fire, checkmates the plans of a scheming engineer (Willard Robertson) to wreck the project, and wins the love and respect of his lovely employer (Grace Bradley).
