INSURGENTS DRIVEN BACK

BARCELONA, April 13. The Government claims to have driven back the insurgents north and south of Lerida over the River Segre and to have brought down four insurgent bombers. Cabinet has placed all sources of •lectrical power under the control of Senor Negrin and decided to call up for immediate service three more classes of conscripts, including lads of 17.

Eye-witnesses assert that the rebels employed liquid fire on the San Mateo front against the Loyalists, who withstood five hours of tank attacks and aerial bombing. Italian and German flame-throwers, wearing fireproof suits and gas masks, went into action filling the front line trenches with burned bodies.

It is officially stated that the child victims of the rebel air raids and bombardments in Loyalist Spain are: Killed, 10,709, and wounded, 15,320 from July, 1936, to March, 1938.
