INSURGENTS DRIVEN BACK

BARCELONA, April 13. The Government claims to have driven back the insurgents north and south of Lerida over the River Segre and to have brought down four insurgent bombers. Cabinet has placed all sources of •lectrical power under the control of Senor Negrin and decided to call up for immediate service three more classes of conscripts, including lads of 17.
LIQUID FIRE
USED BY REBELS
Received April 13, 5.5 p.m. BARCELONA, April 12. Eye-witnesses assert that the rebels employed liquid fire on the San Mateo front against the Loyalists, who withstood five hours of tank attacks and aerial bombing. Italian and German flame-throwers, wearing fireproof suits and gas masks, went into action filling the front line trenches with burned bodies.
It is officially stated that the child victims of the rebel air raids and bombardments in Loyalist Spain are: Killed, 10,709, and wounded, 15,320 from July, 1936, to March, 1938.
INSURGENTS CONFIDENT Received April 13, 11.30 p.m. SARAGOSSA, April 13. The insurgents are confident of reaching the Mediterranean bv Easter.
INTERVENTION PROBLEM AIR CONTROL SCHEME. [ BritLih Official Wireleu.] RUGBY, April 12. Difficulties in securing the full observance of the non-intervention policy in Spain were discussed in the House of Commons to-day in a brief statement by the Foreign Under-Sec-retary (Mr. R. A. Butler), who revealed that the Non-Intervention Ccmmittee is considering a scheme for introducing some sort of air control in Spain.
