Mr. F. J. Hill, of Wanganui, is leaving for Taupo to-day for the Easter holidays.
Mr. G. H. Mackley, General Manager of Railways, was a visitor to Wanganui yesterday.
Sir Francis Frazer and Messrs. F. W. Furkert and H. L. Cole, members of the commission to enquire into the cause of the Ratana railway derailment, will return to Wellington today.
Appreciation of the hospitality extended to Sir Stenson Cooke, secretary of the A.A. (England), during his recent visit to the city, was received at last night's meeting of the executive of the Automobile Association (Wanganui) from the Auckland Association.
At the meeting of householders of the Durie Hill School held last evening the chairman, Mr. G. W. Caird, referred to Mr. W. F. Dennis, who was recently the victim of a severe accident and is an inmate of the Wanganui Hospital. “Mr. Dennis gave excellent service to the school for many years in the dual capacity of secretary and treasurer,” said Mr. Caird. A motion of sympathy was recorded.
Dr. E. E. Porritt, president of the North Island Motor Union, who has been indisposed for some time, is improving considerably. A letter received from him at last night’s meeting of the executive of the Automobile Association (Wanganui) stated that he hoped to be back at the meetings soon. Although he would have to relinquish some of his activities, he would continue his association with! the executive and the North Island Motor Union Insurance Co., of which he is a director.
