General Situation.—An anti-cyclone is now centred east of the South Island. A depression is still located over the North Tasman and pressure is relatively low in the far north and off the west coast of the Dominion.

Forecast.—Winds: South-easterly at first in the Cook Strait area and between Cape Palliser and East Cape, moderate to strong and in places reaching gale force, otherwise moderate to strong east to north-east prevailing. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough north of Hokitika and Kaikoura, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong east to north winds and rough seas. Weather cloudy to overcast and in places misty with further rain in most districts. Some heavy falls about and north of Cook Strait but only light and scattered in the southern portion of the South Island. Some improvement probable to-morrow. Temperatures cool but rising. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, nil. Rainfall, .69 in. Temperatures: Maximum, 67deg. Fahr.; minimum, 56deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 5.54 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 6.50 a.m.
