EASTER TOURNAMENT
On Saturday afternoon the St. John's Tennis Club opened their hardcourts for the 1938 winter season before a large attendance of members as well as visitors from other clubs.
Mr. John Coull, patron ot' the club, officially declared the season open and congratulated the club on the excellence of the coii’ts and surroundings. Mr. Coull then presented the trophies to the winners of the club events.
General play was indulged in, practically all players mixing with the beginners and play went with a swing to the enjoyment of all. A final reminder is given all tennis players to send in their entries for the Easter tournament, which is being held on the hard courts over the holidays. Many entries have been received from vis? players and the tournament pro: a be very successful.
Entries may be .-.t with Mr. Noble Campbell, at Mason, Struthers and Co. The present holders of the St. John's Easter tournament championship titles are as follows: Men's Singles.—l. Robertson. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss M. Purcell.
Men's Doubles.—l. Robertson and M. L. Lampe. Ladies' Doubles.—Misses Clark and Purcell.
Combined Doubles.—J. Finlayson and Miss Purcell. Players are all requested to be ready to play at 9 a.m. sharp as, with the large entries, prompt attendance will greatly assist the management. Among visiting players participating will be Miss Margaret Beverley, who is holder of the New Zealand ladies' singles championship title.
