Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, April 12, 3 p.m

General Situation.—A series of shallow westerly depressions has been advancing acros sthe South Tasman and pressure has fallen over the Dominion. Over southern Tasmania it has risen considerably but depressions are located over southern New South Wales and the north-west Tasman.

Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly from Canterbury and Westland northwards, reaching gale force at times in the Cook Strait area, moderate to strong south-easterly in the far South and gradually extending over most of the Soath Island. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas, rather rough to rough south of Kawhai, moderate to rather rough north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate but rising south of Kaikoura. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northeast to easterly winds in the northern half and south-east to southerly in the southern; seas rather rough to rough. Weather: Cloudy to overcast and with scattered rains in most districts. Some heavyfalls on the west coast of the South Island but little in eastern districts of the North. Temperatures mild at first but a cool change advancing over the South Island. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m yes.terday: Bright sunshine, 4 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Temperatures: Maximum, 75deg. Fahr.; minimum, 48deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 5.56 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 6.49 a.m.
