TWO YEARS’ PROGRESS THE COMMITTEE’S REPORT The activities of the Aramoho School Committee during the past two years are covered in the repotl to be presented by the chairman, Mr. A. E. Halligan, on behalf of the committee at the biennial meeting of householders to-night:— Improvements. —A considerable portion of the lawns has been top-dressed with soil. Seating has been erected in various places on the school grounds. The top portion of the pergola leading to the baths has been renewed with hardwood timber. Portion of the wooden fence at the baths has been re-erected in iron and made higher so as to protect the seating. Extension of Playing Area. Thu Education Board have been asked to provide additional playing area. They have approved and have the matter in hand.
Swimming Baths. The appointment of a caretaker to the baths has proved a continued success. The committee are deeply grateful to Mr. W. Firmin for his valuable service and interest in the school children. The annual swimming sports again proved a great success. The committee’s thanks are due to Messrs. Bridges and Pepper for providing prizes for the senior and junior championships. The thanks of the committee are due to Mr. C. Downey for his interest and help in teaching children to swim.
Dental Clinic. The dental clinic has continued to function, and is proving a great benefit to parents and children. Mr. Cathro, secretary to the dental clinic, will give further information on this matter. Maintenance of Grounds.—We extend to the headmaster, staff, ana children our most grateful thanks i’oi their valuable help. The grounds have been well maintained and buildings kept in good order. It was found necessary to purchase a motor lawn mower for the cutting of the extensive lawns. This has proved a boon to the committee in the upkeep of lawns.
Donations. —We thank the Croquet Club and parents for cash donations. Also teachers and parents for running fancy dress ball and operetta. The proceeds from these functions, including donations, amounted to £65 4s 9d. Radio.—A radio has been installed in the school. All rooms have been wired up so as to enable all classes to partake of radio lessons. The cost of radio and installation was £33 0s 9d.
Committee. —Mr. J. McChesney resigned from the committee during the term owing to ill health. Mr. Downey, Mr. Robb, Mr. Cables ana Mr. Pepper are not seeking re-elec-tion. To these gentlemen on behail of the school 1 extend my thanks and appreciation for their long and valuable services. Mr. J. McChesney served five years, Mr. C. Downey four years. Mr. Robb two years, Mr. Cables seven years, and Mr. Pepper 17 years. I am not seeking re-election and wish to thank past committeemen for their loyal service to myself and the school. I trust the new committee will have every success in their efforts.
